An Introduction to The bobble

large magenta bobble

bobble is described as a “stylish, patented water bottle that filters water as you drink. bobble’s ingenious design removes chlorine and organic contaminants from municipal tap water. In doing so, bobble replicates the experience of drinking crisp, clean portable water without incurring significant costs – an environmental and monetary – associated with plastic water bottles.”

Here some interesting facts about bottled water:

1. Bottled water has been on of the fastest-growing sectors in the beverage industry.

2. Americans spend over $15 billion every year on bottled water.”

3. Most plastic bottles are casually discarded and end up in landfills, in oceans, and on sidewalks.

Here are some interesting faces about bobble:

1. bobble is made from recycled plastic and is free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC.

2. bobble is reusable and is intended to be an everyday accessory rather than an impulse decision.

3. The Original bobble (in medium size, which is what I have and will be talking about throughout this post) retails for $9.99 USD

4. The low retail price of bobble and its filters is intended to mitigate the cost of regular bottled water consumption.

5. A single bobble filter equates to at least 300 water bottles (so not only does it save you money, it saves the planet, too!)

6. bobble is made in the USA.

7. bobble was designed by renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid and features an iconic shape.

8. bobbles are sold in six colors: green, red, blue, magenta, black and yellow.

9. The carbon filters are a proven, powerful chemical absorbent. As water passes over them, the negative ions of contaminants are drawn to the carbon granules, where they remain.

10. The filter should be replaces every two months, or after filtering 40 gallons (150 liters) of water.

I was sent a green bobble* to review. This thing is seriously cool.

Before you use the bobble for the first time, you’re supposed to clean the filter. On the back of the packaging, there are 3 simple instructions on how to do this.

Step 1: Before use, fill bobble with water.

Step 2: Gently squeeze 18oz/533ml of water through filter. Carbon dust will appear in the first rinse.

So, when I did this, the first couple squirts of water were literally black. It was kinda weird, but I guess that’s what it supposed to happen.

Step 3: Replace filter after 2 months or 40 gallons/150 litres. Please recycle.

I’m really excited to take this with me to the gym and no longer have to worry about poor-quality water fountains! Stay tuned for an update! :)
